The Alamance County Family Justice Center is launching its first youth programming in 2024!
Camp HOPE America is the first evidence-based camping and mentoring program in the United States to focus on children and teens exposed to domestic violence. Children who are exposed to trauma such as domestic violence are more likely to experience health, social, and legal disparities as adults. The mission is to give traumatized youth a brighter future by creating pathways to hope and healing. The program consists of a week of overnight camp supported by yearlong activities and group mentorship referred to as Pathways.
Camp Hope is a weeklong overnight camping adventure for children. While at camp, youth explore high adventure activities that help them overcome fears and try new things in a safe, supportive setting. Youth participate in collaborative, team-building activities and learn what it means to believe in themselves, each other, and their dreams. Most importantly, children who typically live very stressful lives get the chance to know the simple joys of childhood
In addition to summer camp, youth participate in monthly enrichment activities throughout the year. By participating in these specialized programming opportunities, they build community with peers, heal from trauma, and learn new skills like communication, teamwork, problem solving, goal setting, curiosity play, and creativity.
Volunteer with Camp Hope
Camp HOPE volunteers are essential to building a hope-centered community and supporting the dreams and goals of our youth.
Interested in applying? There are three different categories of volunteering. Please read through each category and the qualifications for each.
HOPE COUNSELOR
Counselors spend day and night with campers and are required to sleep and are a in the same cabin as campers. Counselors are a huge part of making hope happen!
- Must be age 18-24
- Must pass a background check
- Commitment to be present in a child’s life
- Passion for working with children exposed to trauma
- Able to make a year long commitment
- Must be able to attend CAMP week (2024 dates: August 18th-23rd)

HOPE MENTORS
Mentors are essential support network for counselors and the overall camp.
- Must be 25+
- Professional in the community (Law Enforcement, Social Worker, Teacher, Therapist, etc)
- Must pass a background check
- Commitment to be present in a child’s life
- Passion for working with children exposed to trauma
- Able to make a year long commitment
- Must be able to attend CAMP week (2024 dates: August 18th-23rd)

HOPE VOLUNTEERS
Individuals who assist in making the program happen, from setting up the space, picking up supplies, organizing materials for events, or assisting at check-in.
- Must be age 18+
- Must pass a background check
- Passion for working with children exposed to trauma
